Italian Startup Creates Bitcoin Platform for Transparent Natural Disaster Donations

Helperbit is an Italian startup which has created a platform to manage natural disaster donations.

The project was born in 2014, but only now has it finally started to accept donations thanks to its collaboration with Italian non-profit organization Legambiente.

As revealed in a recent press release, Helperbit will now help Legambiente to raise funds for its campaign entitled “The Rebirth has a Young Heart” dedicated to youth entrepreneurs in the Italian areas affected by the earthquakes in 2016.

Thanks to the Blockchain technology, Helperbit adds another channel for fundraising and offers to its donors a transparent way for economic flows.

Helperbit COO Davide Menegaldo, who is also the co-founder of the Blockchain Education Network Italia, says:

“The Blockchain technology has the potential to provide substantial benefits in the humanitarian sector and with Helperbit, we aim at getting non-profit organizations closer to this innovation to improve many aspects of their operative infrastructure.”

“I’m very happy that an open-minded and well-known Italian organization as Legambiente has adopted this technology and I expect that other organizations will soon understand that Blockchain can help to reshape the charity sector, alleviating and reducing human suffering,” he said to Cointelegraph.

Full traceability

To start “The Rebirth has a Young Heart” effort, Legambiente relied on Helperbit to analyze the total received charity donations and later to check how the money will be spent.

Rossella Muroni, national president of Legambiente, is quoted in the press release as saying:

“With the choice we made we are now the leading non-profit organization in Italy and among the few in the world to accept donations through this payment method [Bitcoin], which guarantees to donors full traceability of both their contribution and the results obtained.”

Decentralized donations

Legambiente, in fact, is not the only organization in the world who accepts Bitcoin donations.

As reported by Bitcoin For Charity, other associations have decided to accept this decentralized payment method, including Save the Children, The Water Project, Antiwar and more.

This could promote the digital currency and its payment benefits to other associations worldwide and encourage Bitcoin acceptance.
