“Bitcoin” trending on Google following BTC’s 20% rise

The recent and quite unexpected price surge in Bitcoin has the market bustling with excitement. Google’s list of trending searches suggests that the excitement has spilled over to the broader market as well as Google clocks over 50,000 searches for “Bitcoin” today.  

At the time of writing, “Bitcoin” is the second most searched term on Google today, clocking in over 50,000 searches in the US alone. In first place is “Avengers: Endgame tickets” with over 100,000 searches and “Astigmatism” comes in at third with over 20,000 searches.

Additionally, according to Google Trends, Bitcoin searches spiked at around 5:52 AM this morning, with Nigeria as the region featuring the most searches while South Africa comes in second. The Netherlands, St Helena and Austria make up the rest of the top five.

At 7:28 this morning, Bitcoin saw its biggest search spike reaching the maximum of 100 representing the peak popularity for the term. By comparison, the biggest altcoins such as Ethereum, XRP and Litecoin featured 4, 4, and 2, respectively. Looking at the popularity of the “Bitcoin” search term over the last week, March 27 was the closest with a popularity level of 62.

Other searchers like “bitcoin surge” featured an 800% increase while “sec bitcoin” saw a 350% rise following the April fools joke of the SEC approving a Bitcoin ETF.
