When Virtual Reality Meets Crypto: Voxelus brings you Voxels.
Voxelus is a virtual reality (VR) platform founded by the tech entrepreneur, Halsey Minor. Halsey Minor founded CNET Networks in 1993 which was eventually acquired by CBS for $1.8 billion. He has also been apart of many successful companies such as Vignette, salesforce.com, and Minor Ventures which has funded startups such as OpenDNS and Grand Central Communications. Halsey’s influence in the tech industry has been major (pun entirely intended), but this latest company has extraordinary potential. Voxelus is a VR platform that will have gaming and experiences you can pay for using their premined cryptocurrency, Voxels.
If any readers are familiar with World of Warcraft style games that have marketplaces within the game, then they’ll understand that having a cryptocurrency used in the virtual marketplace, not only makes sense, but is an excellent development in the gaming space because Voxels will be traded on exchanges externally, meaning hardcore gamers can profit off of their work within a game. For example, inside these gaming economies, a player can gather virtual goods that other players will trade for using the game’s currency, but if the currency can be traded outside of the game for BTC, USD, or other currencies, then gamers good enough at gathering valuable resources in the game could potentially profit from their efforts.
Not into gaming? Voxelus will have other applications that will dazzle the public. For instance, they could potentially record live events to be viewed through the VR headset. This means that Voxelus could allow you to “be” at a concert in virtual reality watching your favourite band live and feeling like you’re in the stadium. This doesn’t stop there though. Think about the olympics, or any major sporting event, you could get a virtually real experience of the event provided that Voxelus can record the event. From your living room with a virtual reality headset, you could virtually watch any live event hosted on this platform. Virtual reality has come a long way, with the headset on you can turn your head and the camera turns with you as if you’re viewing reality. You won’t even have to leave your house anymore! Just kidding, you should probably get outside more, especially if you’re growing up with all of this incredible technology at a young age.
The cryptocurrency you use for the applications on Voxelus, Voxels, was created by Jim Blasko, creator of Unbreakablecoin and part owner of BitcoinTalkRadio.com. Voxels are a Proof-of-Work coin using the Scrypt algorithm. Only 210 million Voxels exist and will ever exist. Voxelus has premined the coin to pay for development of the project and will be having a public pre-sale, of 15% of Voxels, November 2nd at sale.voxelus.com. The virtual marketplace is set to launch in the first quarter of 2016. The virtual reality headsets should be available at a more affordable price at this time as well with the $99 Samsung Gear VR headset coming soon. If this interests you, go check them out now. For speculators, Voxels to me seems like a good opportunity to at least examine because they will have immediate application and continued applications added in the future. It might be worth buying a few early, but just don’t bet the house on it. As with any of these early experiments, risk is involved, so if you’re speculating on the price, use disposable income that you would be okay with losing.
On that note, it’s amazing to think how far we’ve come as a species in just these past few decades. Remember, historically we’ve been living fairly hard lives, without knowledge of antibiotics and when dieseases like the plague were wiping massive populations out. The internet has been an incredible advancement and it’s easy to take things like cars and airplanes for granted. It was only a few generations ago that people actually started using refrigerators. Sorry for getting all sentimental on you, but if you’re living in this day and age, it’s probably one of the best times to be alive and it’s easy to forget how good we have it. If you can keep history in the back of your mind from time to time, the current living standards we enjoy become so much easier to appreciate and I hope the younger generations out there are able to see this too. We’ll see where this VR platform goes, but in all honesty, I think this is huge!
